Eventually, it's just worth it to close the deal and tell one market to sod off. The reason they're comparing the total population size of approvals to the UK is because they have one small regulatory body who's making a stink and blocking it.

But it's unimaginable the UK would just forgo both Blizzard and Microsoft products going forward, especially with pretty much the rest of the planet giving the green light.. so that means their "blocking the deal" is largely ceremonial, It'll happen with or without them if everyone else approves. Large mergers like this seldom benefit the consumer. Even the EU commission said the merger would be a net negative for competition in the cloud gaming sector.
